John is one of the directors of the Sussex Athletics Academy and is heavily involved in running the company along with the other founder Trevor Simcox. John has been involved in athletics as an athlete competing at inter-county and national level before moving into coaching. John is currently a level 3 UKA coach with other qualifications in 'Children in Athletics' and 'biomechanics'.
John enjoys the running aspect of track and field, particularly if it is longer than 1 lap of the track. This is clear from his commitment to the Sussex County squad days where he regularly coaches. John has a well established squad of athletes that range from 11 years old up to senior men. These athletes have all competed for local clubs, their county and at both inter-county and national level.
Trevor is the other director of the Sussex Athletics Academy and along with John jointly runs the academy. Trevor is a level 2 UKA coach with UKA qualifications in 'Children in Athletics' and 'hurdling'. His coaching follows a career as an athlete hurdling and competing as a decathlete up to inter-county level. Besides the track and field achievements, Trevor has also represented his county and university at rugby. As a sideline Trevor also qualified as a squash coach and has coached football teams in the Sussex area.
He brings his experience as a secondary school teacher to the track when taking his squad of hurdlers for their regular training. These hurdlers have competed at county, inter-county and national level. This experience has proved invaluable when coaching the younger athletes just starting to learn the skills needed for sport.
